FREESTYLE VEST

The Freestyle Vest was first manufactured during the 1970s when Canada Goose operated as a private label manufacturer under the name of Metro Sportswear. At the time, Metro Sportswear designed and produced down-filled products for apparel companies like L.L. Bean, Eddie Bauer, Land’s End and Woods Canada. Since then, the Freestyle Vest has been adopted by the Canada Goose Outdoor Performance Collection and is recognized as a heritage piece.

BEHIND THE SEAMS

Originally, the Freestyle Vest was only produced as a men’s design. Eventually the demand for a fitted, sleeker style for women was heard, and gender-specific designs of the Freestyle Vest were added to the Outdoor Performance Collection.

The men’s Freestyle Vest is comprised of 25 pattern pieces, while it takes 31 pieces to make the women’s style due to gender-specific designs elements, such as pocket placement.

The Freestyle Vest goes through 34 sewing operations before it’s ready to wear. On average, it takes 13 different people to complete one vest.

Throughout the years, the Freestyle Vest has undergone design updates to enhance performance and style. For the Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, facing was added to the inside lining, creating a polished aesthetic and increased wind protection.

One design element that has stayed consistent since its creation is the practical and sleek pocket layout. This timeless layout is not only refined, it’s highly functional, making it ideal for both the great outdoorsperson and the urban adventurer.

From classic neutrals to vibrant pops of colour, the Freestyle Vest is available in more than 15 colours.

In 2009, the iconic Canada Goose Arctic Disc replaced a maple leaf insignia seen in previous collections.

The classic quilt-through design is not only sophisticated in style, it also requires highly technical craftsmanship to manufacture.

The drop tail provides extra warmth and optimum protection against the unforgiving elements.

The covered zipper improves wind protection and is reinforced by the durable snap-front closure.
