Why We Choose Fur

No matter where they’re worn, many of our products are designed and built to protect against the elements in the coldest places on Earth – places where exposed skin can freeze in an instant. In these environments, we believe that fur is the best choice – having fur trim around a jacket hood disrupts airflow which helps protect the face from frostbite.

Why We Choose Down

We use down because it’s recognized as one of the world’s best natural insulators. Each ounce of down has approximately two million fluffy filaments that interlock and overlap to create insulating pockets of air, which is what keeps you warm.

All of the down we use is hypoallergenic, laboratory-tested and is in compliance with applicable standards. Our down blends all contain Canadian Hutterite down, which is among the highest quality Canadian down available, enabling us to manufacture lighter jackets without sacrificing warmth.

RATINGS AND REVIEWS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from versatile I own the Expedition and this jacket has made my other jacket lonely. I have tested it under harsh conditions and it exceeded my expectations. -30deg weather, camping, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, and the most coldest thing on earth- standing watching kids soccer for hours in Vancouver, 1deg, pouring rain. I wasn't sold that this jacket really was waterproof, as many companies claim jacket to be, and they aren't. I used this all last winter in the rain for hours and the only wet spot was at the base of the hood to neck. It dried fine. It feels as warm as the expedition but this can pack into the size of a football.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maybe The Perfect Winter Jacket! Wow. I think this may be the perfect winter coat - at least for me. Impeccable design; very well thought out. So lightweight that when the parcel arrived I thought the box was empty. I love the length- just over the hips. The hood is amazing and provides complete protection from wind. Generous sized outside pockets with zippers. The coat is so unbelievably warm and the wind is completely blocked. I’ve tried the Skreslet, Approach and Summit. Finally settled on the Mountaineer as it was the best fitting and the best blend of the greatest elements of all of these amazing coats. I went for a very hard to find XXL in red which fits me perfectly at 5’10” and 190 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super warm for Canadian winter! I have owned this jacket for 5 years now, and I can say with absolute confidence that this is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. Originally bought in December of 2013 in preparation of my Christmas trip to Yellowknife, and it did not disappoint! The week of my trip was especially cold in Yellowknife, with temperatures in the range of -50 to -65 degrees Celsius, with wind chill. I had no problem walking around outside for hours wearing nothing but a t-shirt underneath. To this day I still pack this bad boy when I travel north on my business trips. I even find that if I wear a thicker layer like a thin sweater under this jacket I tend to sweat a little in -40 degree weather. If you are looking for warmth, this is the end game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fashionable & Top Notch Looks great to wear around a city, to the office, etc. Works great to go cross-country skiing during a blizzard and anything else intense. Solid coat! A few things to call out though... I was freeeezing during 10 degree fahrenheit weather (with layers underneath). Doesn't it say this goes to -25 F and below?! I was disappointed given that this is also one of the most expensive Goose coats... decided to stick with this purchase though because compared to other top of the line jackets (eg, Arcteryz SV Fisson or even the warmest LL Bean coat which is a third as much), I found this *just slightly* warmer. Also, why only 3 pockets?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great water proof wind proof winter jacket I needed a water proof, warm parka with some reflective elements when walking my dog at night. I purchased the Mountaineer jacket, and have been wearing it for 2 weeks. The initial use of the jacket was in -17C temps, and now heavy rain out on the west cost. The jacket is very warm. and the rain just beads off the jacket at this time. The jacket is also totally wind proof. Size is true to fit and the chest pockets are perfect for me and well insulated . The reflective strips are good but are of limited use on the front (please take a look at the pictures) I do realize this is to accommodate people wearing backpacks. . I also tried the Summit jacket and found the mountaineer was a better fit for me warmth wise. . I am 5’8’’ and 170lbs and have a size L. . There is enough room for a layer if needed under the jacket . I am wearing it with just a thermal base layer. The jacket weighs just over 2.2lbs and has a slightly puffy look, well, the cross stitched quilted down interior might be the cause this. But keeps you really warm . I highly recommend this jacket. This is my 3rd CG jacket. I have 2 lodge jackets, one is a PBI hoody and the other is the jacket. The quality on all these jackets is outstanding.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice jacket but I returned it because... I returned this jacket because of the pockets. They are undersized and the outside pockets sit very high making it uncomfortable to keep your hands in. I get having them high up out of the way of backpack straps, but these are too high. There is a flap that covers the pocket zippers that can make it hard to get in and out of with mittens on The interior pockets are too small to be useful. They won't hold thicker gloves that would match the style of glove you'd be wearing with a jacket this warm. Also, the outside pocket zippers seemed to get caught up on the material very easily. The build quality of this jacket is very nice and I'd imagine it would keep one very warm in some very cold temps, but I just couldn't get past the pocket thing.
