Olivia Tagalik 512LTAG 512LTAG RANKIN INLET, NU. The very first parka Olivia ever made was an Amauti, an Inuit-style parka traditionally worn by mothers to carry their infant children. It was inspired by the colours of her grandmother’s parka—yellow, red, black—and made using the same pattern. She was 13 or 14 years old. Today, she makes her own patterns for her own design company. And it’s not just parkas–she makes sportswear with an Inuit twist and dabbles in home decor. When it came to creating her Project Atigi parka, Olivia was inspired by looking at the world around her and designed a parka for life in the North: “We’re always going out, either driving on a Ski-Doo or an ATV. Or we’re at the arena for hours, watching hockey,” she says. “That’s why the back is cut longer, so you’ve got something warm when you’re sitting.” She loves to sew alone, but it can also be a communal activity, shared with friends who come pop over to troubleshoot their designs--a tricky pocket, maybe, or a zipper that won’t cooperate. https://images.canadagoose.com/image/upload/w_480,c_scale,f_auto,q_auto:best/v1577723282/product-image/512LTAG_61.jpg Canada Goose
